Wonderings Regarding Legacy

Wonderings Regarding Legacy
By: Henry Ziegler

Would I be remembered? Or would I merely descend into the teeming ranks of 'the ancestors', 'people back then', 'those who came before'? What is my legacy? Would my name and image live on in street signs, hospitals, train stations; would my name and image lend themselves to cities, states, or nations? What earthly actions of ours can guarantee a pedestal in the pantheon?

  1. You raise some important questions. I think many people want to be remembered, but often, they get caught up in trying to make themselves "famous" that they forget that actions are often more memorable than people.

  2. I love your ending phrase: "pedestal in the pantheon."

  3. Hi, Henry;
    I would like to mention that you have raised some very pertinent questions in your piece about creating a legacy. I would like to offer something to ponder by way of an eighteenth century writer named Benjamin Franklin:' Long after you are dead and rotten ,If you are not to soon be forgotten ,either write something worth the reading or do something worth writing." I say keep writing.

  4. Wow, such thoughts from someone so young. Do you want your name on a street sign? I would rather be remembered by a smile on someone's face when they think of me. What I really like about your writing is that you talk about being remembered not about being famous. Good for you. You see the difference. I bet you do leave a legacy.
