I am strong,
I am bright,
Smart and creative.
I am done with all these people
Telling me what I can and cannot do.
I am kind
And confident,
I am not afraid to do what's right.
I am loyal
And brave,
I am beautiful in all ways.
I am me,
I am a woman.

I am so impressed by the strength you display in this poem. I wish I had that confidence at your age. As a 30-something, I am just starting to feel the way you describe. Never lose that feeling!

This poem evoked a really powerful emotion in me, especially the lines "I am done with all these people / Telling me what I can and cannot do." I feel so proud of the narrator and so full of hope for her generation.

ReplyDeleteI love that you are willing to speak your mind so freely and sincerely. I believe that being comfortable with who you are is a big step towards defying others who would push you in directions you do not wish to go. This poem beautifully expresses that you have that confidence.
ReplyDeleteAnother great personal declaration! As was commented on by Celeste, it does have a great rhythm to it. It would be great for a spoken word poetry night/poetry slam.
ReplyDeleteWill written. Something we must keep telling ourselves, we are not limited. The only limits that we have are those that we place upon ourselves. Just remember that not that long ago woman were not allowed to own property, they were the property of their husbands or fathers. We have come a long way and have a long way yet to travel. Continue to take those giant steps.

ReplyDeleteThis rhythmic poem resonates for me the definition of a strong woman. Nina Simon, who was a songwriter had a beautiful song that reminds me of this writing piece. It is called “Four Women!”
