Garden Stroll Poem
On a cool, silent night
There are flowers in flickering lamplight
Full moon, brilliant, bright
The stars' glittering gaze
Leaves the lonely watcher in a daze
An infrequent joy nowadays
Walk through these gardens alone
Steps over damp cobblestone
The pitter patter on luminescent leaves gently blown
Walk these paths no one ever knew
Left in the morning only dew
With no one else to share this view

It's such a feat that you create such beautiful images, yet always lace them with a tinge of melancholy. From the beginning of the poem, I felt I couldn't quite relax into the serenity of this garden because I could tell there was something a little off. I think it's so smart to describe a garden at night because it plays on our associations of gardens as places of sunshine and life. I can't decide if my favorite line is "flowers in flickering lamplight" or "leaves the lonely watcher in a daze." They so perfectly capture the mood of the poem--and have great alliteration!
ReplyDeleteI very much enjoyed the flow of your Poem, and while I was reading your Poem ,it reminded me of a recent stroll that I took in a Park near my house.I appreciate the sense of having oneness with Nature. Greats rhymes as well.
DeleteI really liked the flow and word choice in this poem. It makes it really easy to imagine the garden scene you’re describing.
ReplyDeleteThis poem lends a perfect depiction of what nature can offer - a calm presence, yet one to be revered. I especially appreciate the portrayal of a seemingly independent perspective that could just as easily be shared by anyone who dares to take this stroll. Your writing style created a path for readers to jump right into the garden. Well written!
